My son, Nehal, loves Nutella and so do I. 🙂 The other day while leaving home for school, he asked me to make something with Nutella. I asked, “How about cupcakes with Nutella?” He gave me a gleeful look and got into the car bidding me goodbye. It took me 40 minutes to prepare and bake the warm and aromatic Nutella swirl cupcakes. The house smelled heavenly when he got home and the sight of the cupcakes cooling on the wire rack ensured a tight hug and kiss for Mommy! 🙂

These cupcakes are a breeze to make. Though it sounds exotic, it is one of those cupcake recipes that is easy to make with everyday ingredients available at home. Nutella is the main star player that elevates the flavor of the cupcake. The self frosted Nutella swirl turns an ordinary cupcake into an special one.

 Ingredients

  •   Maida 1 1/2 cups (flour)
  •   Baking powder 2 tsps
  •   Salt 1/4 tsp
  •   Butter 1/4 cup (room temp)
  •   Oil 1/4 cup (I used olive oil)
  •   Sugar 3/4 cup
  •   Vanilla extract 1 1/2 tsps
  •   Eggs 2
  •   Milk 1/3 cup
  •   Yogurt 1/3 cup (curd)
  •   Nutella as required

Method for making Nutella Swirl Cupcakes

  1. Preheat oven to 175 C.

  2. In a bowl, add maida, baking powder, sugar and salt. Add butter and mix well. It will appear like bread crumbs.

  3. In another bowl, add eggs, curd/yogurt, oil, and vanilla extract and beat until smooth and well combined.

  4. Add this egg mixture to the flour mixture and beat on medium speed until just combined.

  5. Slowly add milk and mix on low speed until just combined.

  6. Place cupcake liners in the muffin pan and fill the liners with batter just over 1/2 full. Add a tbsp of nutella over each of them and give it a swirl with a knife.

  7. Bake for 18-20 mts. Check from 15 mts onwards. When the cupcakes are done, remove the pan and place on a cooling rack to cool. After 5 mts, remove the cupcakes from the pan and cool for a few more minutes.

  8. There is no need to frost these cupcakes. They can be stored in an airtight container upto 3 days.

  •   All the ingredients should be at room temperature.
